The cost to breed Axies in Axie Infinity has been catching public attention recently. The price of AXS (a token used for breeding to create offspring) has been steadily increasing in value over the past few weeks. This has made the cost of breeding more and more expensive – and less and less achievable for the average joe.
With the launch of Season 18 in Axie Infinity, Sky Mavis made some major economic changes in the breeding and earning aspects of the popular play-to-earn game. Namely, the new SLP reward system and the breeding cost reduction. In this article, we will get into details about the latter.
So, how much does it cost to breed Axies today?
In recent weeks, one of the biggest complaints from the community, especially the breeders, is the skyrocketing value of AXS – making breeding more expensive. Until now, the requirement to breed one Axie was 4 AXS. However, in this new season, Sky Mavis decreased the breeding cost to 2 AXS per offspring!
In addition to this AXS, you also need some Smooth Love Potions (SLPs). The amount of SLP required depends on the Axies’ breed count. See table below!
As of today, AXS is worth 3,435 PHP (64 USD). When converted to real currency, the previous breeding cost for one Axie (offspring of a zero-breed count parent pair) was roughly PHP 15,000 or 296.11 USD (AXS and SLPs combined). With the new AXS requirement, this cost has almost halved.

Why halve the cost? Well, Sky Mavis lowered breeding costs to help maintain a balance between the AXS and SLP values. Moreover, Axies are an essential NFT asset in Axie Infinity as players MUST have at least three to play the game. Thus, making breeding more accessible allows the game to grow.
