Today, November 9th, the Star Atlas: CORE ranked no. 1 on Apple Books. The book has 17 pages and a file size of 29.7 MB. The episode 1 of Star Atlas CORE introduces the reader to a trio of space explorers investigating a faraway planet for precious minerals.
What is Star Atlas CORE?
CORE is a story of heroism, heartbreak, and epic adventure by Tim Mcburnie and Matthew Medney, two award-winning creatives. The narrative is set 100 years before the Convergence War and is the first addition to Star Atlas’ Expanded Universe by ATMTA studio. Gyunn, the MUD protagonist, is roaming the galaxy after a visit to a planet in the high-risk zone results in a disastrous blow to his team.
The Lore
The lore revolves around the legendary planet Iris. In Star Atlas, Iris is a planet that existed deep in the High Risk Zone. The Cataclysm was caused by Iris colliding with seven other worlds, sparking a Galactic Expansion and Arms Race between the three Star Atlas groups to capture its valuable resources.
Is Iris just a mere planet? Well, just like other writers, Medney and Mcburnie tied the lore to real life mythologies. Iris is a goddess connected with communication, messages, the rainbow, and new beginnings. In other sources, she is represented wearing a rainbow or multi-colored coat.
Her sister Arke deceived the Olympians and became a messenger for the Titans, the gods’ enemies! Iris is also regarded as a goddess of the sea and the sky, and she connects the gods to humans. She is shown as a rainbow or as a lovely young woman with wings on her shoulders.
Now this is not just a simple mythological review. This all relates to Star Atlas! Remember the Rainbow Arc?
The Arke and Rainbows inspired the creation of Star Atlas Rainbow Arc. The Rainbow Arc is a ship built by the Photoli, who are adored as Gods. The Rainbow Arc can also wear a light cloak or armor that protects it, similar to Iris’ rainbow-colored garment.
